Behind him, the real drama unfolded in the fight for second. Ethan Timar, 19, of Brunswick held off Hamza Alnadi, 19, of Medina by just one second — 22:33 to 22:34 — after running 7:15 and 7:16 per mile respectively. Those are meaningfully different paces, meaning one of them closed harder than the other, and it nearly wasn't enough.
