The headline story in the M50-54 age group was the duel at the front. Matthew Costilow of Lorain crossed in 26:48, running 8:38/mi to claim the win, with Nader Muhammad of Strongsville breathing down his neck at 26:57 — a gap of just nine seconds over 3.1 miles. That's a margin of roughly three seconds per mile, a genuine race-to-the-finish between two men who clearly found each other's company motivating on a heavy, windy morning.

Behind them, the battle for the podium was its own compelling subplot. Eugene Miller of Cleveland locked up third in 28:41 (9:14/mi), with Jifeng Zhao of Stow just five seconds back in 28:46 and Seungki Min of Westlake not far behind at 29:10. Chris Bartish and Norman Hainer Jr. — both from Amherst and Westlake respectively — finished 6th and 7th within a single second of each other at 29:21 and 29:22. Jeremy Siegrist of Delaware rounded out the top eight in 29:32.

The field spread out considerably after that opening cluster. Ted Sahley and Dirk Zeiser held the 10th and 11th spots at 30:31 and 30:55, while Adam Smalley's 33:21 marked a noticeable step back from the top tier. The back half of the listed finishers — from Chris Kimes at 35:21 through Guy Bradshaw at 47:26 — covered a wide range of paces and stories, with 12 more finishers beyond Bradshaw completing the 32-man field. Whatever the time, getting out and running 3.1 miles in those conditions deserves its own recognition.
