Kerry Nehil set the tone early in warm, humid conditions — 77°F and 69% humidity on Kauai's south shore — running a controlled 7:05/mi to claim the M45-49 title by a comfortable margin. His gender place actually slipped slightly in the back half (16th to 20th among men), but no one in the age group could match his pace. Dai Kelly (7:10/mi) kept it honest and earned a clear second-place finish, while Corey Fujita ran a solid 1:40:49 (7:41/mi) to lock up third, more than seven minutes back of the winner.

The real drama unfolded further down the leaderboard. Scott Mann, 49, was buried in 72nd among men at the first checkpoint but ran the 11.05-mile-to-finish segment with the 35th-fastest men's split in that stretch, surging all the way to 55th by the line and taking 4th in M45-49 at 1:44:46. Wehland (1:45:20) had been moving well too — posting the 55th-fastest split on the second half — but couldn't quite close the 34-second gap to Mann.

Gregory Meyers (6th, 1:48:18) and Suresh Pullela (7th, 1:50:02) rounded out the top seven before the field spread wide, with Andrew Maes (8th, 1:55:08), Joshua Schlesner (9th, 1:56:01), and David Jackson (10th, 1:56:49) bunched within two minutes of each other. Kevin Lind hit the round number of 2:00:00 flat in 12th, and the 49-strong M45-49 field kept coming all the way through Matthew Hart's 2:18:26 in 20th among the listed finishers.
