The F45-49 race belonged to Shannon Bueker from start to finish — well, almost. Bueker, 49, of Springfield, VA, ran a measured early race, sitting 12th among all women at the halfway checkpoint before beginning a methodical climb through the field. Her move was confirmed emphatically in the final 10K: her split from mile 20 to the finish was the 5th-fastest among all women in the race, a closing kick that pushed her up to 7th among women overall and delivered the F45-49 title in 2:54:10.

Christy Aish of Conifer, CO told a different story. She was running beautifully through the middle miles — her 6.2M-to-13.1M split ranked 8th among all women — but the back half didn't hold. After sitting 6th among women at the halfway mark, Aish faded to 15th by the finish, crossing in 2:59:54 at 6:52/mi. She still claimed a comfortable 2nd place in the F45-49 field, but the gap between her mid-race brilliance and Bueker's late surge tells the real story of how the win was decided.

Third and fourth were a genuine race within the race. Shari Costanzo, 49, of Napa — running on home soil — finished 3rd in 3:16:03 (7:29/mi), while Meghann Remick of Lexington, MA crossed 4th in 3:17:18 (7:32/mi). Remick actually ran the 31st-fastest women's split from mile 20 to the finish, clawing back positions late, but Costanzo had just enough of a cushion built up. The 1:15 separating them was the narrowest margin anywhere on the F45-49 podium. Lisa Engler rounded out the top five in 3:36:14 (8:15/mi), with Gina Martinez (6th, 3:37:56), Liz Gottlieb (7th, 3:40:48), and Stacy Rossmann (8th, 3:42:04) forming a tight cluster behind her.
