On a mild, humid December morning in Huntsville — 60°F with heavy air at 85% humidity — three local men took on the Rocket City 10K in the M75-79 age group, and they made it a hometown affair from start to finish.

William Potter, 75, set the pace no one could match, crossing the line in 8:15:33 at an average of 79:45 per mile. It was a commanding effort that put nearly 17 minutes of daylight between him and the runner-up. Graham Gallemore, the eldest of the trio at 79, came in second in 8:32:43 — a real statement of durability, running 82:31 per mile and holding off the third finisher throughout.

Wilburn Douglass, also 75, rounded out the podium in 8:38:16, averaging 83:24 per mile. He finished 5:33 behind Gallemore — close enough to keep the back half of the race honest, but Potter's lead was never seriously in question.
