Rocket City Marathon F20-24: Riley Davis Runs Away With It

• Riley Davis won the F20-24 age group in 3:04:30 (7:02/mi), finishing 6th among all women.
• Kara Moore was 2nd in 3:07:14 — just 2 minutes 44 seconds back — and posted the 4th-fastest women's split from 31K to the finish.
• Audrie Brusehaber rounded out the podium in 3:24:25, climbing from 19th among women at the half to 16th at the finish, posting the 11th-fastest women's split from the half to 31K.
• A 57-minute gap separates 6th-place Maria Zolkowski (3:37:20) from 7th-place Brittany Loy (4:17:35) — the sharpest dividing line in the field.

Riley Davis made the F20-24 race look straightforward, but the conditions were anything but. At 70°F with 17 mph winds and 76% humidity in December, Huntsville served up a warm, blustery day that had plenty of runners fading late. Davis ran 7:02/mi from Birmingham and held 6th among women from the 10K checkpoint all the way to the tape — a model of controlled, consistent racing. Her split from 10K to the half was the 6th-fastest among women, a sign she was moving well through the middle stretch when the heat and wind tend to do their worst damage.

Kara Moore from Atlanta was the closest challenger, and she made her move late. Her 31K-to-finish split was the 4th-fastest among all women in the race — a strong closer who simply ran out of course. The 2:44 margin between first and second was real, but Moore's finishing kick suggests she had the better second half. Audrie Brusehaber of Syracuse was a different story: she ran a patient race, sitting 19th among women at the halfway point before working her way up to 16th by the finish, locking down 3rd in the age group with a 3:24:25.

The back half of the F20-24 field told a familiar warm-weather story. Sara Martin and Jaylin Lucier both finished in the 3:30–3:35 range, while positions 7 through 14 were clustered between 4:17 and 4:57. Morgan Brannon, the youngest finisher at 20, crossed in 6:23:05 — a gutsy finish on a tough day, completing a 15-finisher field that covered nearly every corner of the Southeast.
