Rocket City Marathon F25-29: Emma Hardman Dominates in Difficult Conditions

Emma Hardman made the F25-29 race her own from the opening miles. Running at 6:35/mi through warm, humid conditions — 70°F with 17 mph winds and 76% humidity — the Huntsville native steadily climbed the women's field, moving from 5th among women at the 10K to 4th at the half and 3rd by the finish. Along the way she posted the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-half stretch, a burst of quality that put the result beyond doubt. Her 2:52:40 stands alone at the top of the age group.

The battle for 2nd and 3rd was decided in the back half of the race. Kasey Skinner (Birmingham) and Malia Gill (Madison) both ran strong final stretches — Skinner's 6th-fastest and Gill's 9th-fastest women's splits from 31K to the finish propelled them to 9th and 12th among women overall, finishing in 3:16:04 and 3:19:37 respectively. The 3:22 gap between them is real, but both earned their podium spots by running the race the right way: patient early, strong late.

The most dramatic story elsewhere belonged to Nina Sillivant and Harriet Rollins Coggan, who traded trajectories entirely. Sillivant ran aggressively through the half — sitting 9th among women — but fell all the way to 33rd by the finish, a costly fade that dropped her to 5th in the age group. Coggan, meanwhile, was buried in 38th among women at the 10K but posted the 16th-fastest women's split over the final 11K to climb all the way to 22nd, securing 4th in F25-29 with a 3:28:06.
