M15-19: Samuel Hunter Runs Away With It in Huntsville

Samuel Hunter put together a controlled, confident race from start to finish. Checking in as high as 18th among the men at the half, he settled into 20th for the back half and held it there — a sign of a runner who found his pace and didn't waver. His 6:34/mi average over 26.2 miles in warm, windy conditions is a genuinely strong performance, and his 17th-fastest split among the men on the 10K-to-half segment underscores that he was moving through the field with purpose during that stretch.

John Murray ran a solid race in his own right — 2:57:34 at 6:46/mi — but the story of his afternoon was a gradual slide through the men's field, dropping from 19th at the 10K to 32nd by the finish. That fade cost him nothing in the M15-19 standings, where he held second comfortably. Tanner Wright rounded out the podium in 3:03:23, slipping back through the men's field across the second half but still finishing a clear third in the age group.

The race split sharply after Wright. Landon Bruski (17, Huntsville) and Nate Maehlmann (17, Madison) both came home in the 3:51–3:54 range, separated by just 2:36, with Maehlmann picking up his best relative split of the day — 199th among the men — on the 31K-to-finish segment, suggesting he found a second wind late. Jacob Rodriguez, Samuel Courtney, Reid Hale, and Charles Caneer rounded out the nine finishers, with Caneer's 5:10:18 closing out the M15-19 group.
