San Francisco Half Marathon F65-69: Wickham Runs Away from the Field

• Marie Wickham (1st, 1:57:50) was the only finisher to break two hours, crossing at an 8:59/mi average — more than 13 minutes clear of 2nd place.
• Guadalupe Castillo (2nd, 2:11:07) and Lucille Wing (3rd, 2:12:44) waged the closest battle on the podium, separated by just 1:37 at the line.
• Janet Green (4th, 2:15:15) rounded out the top four within a tight 4:08 window behind Castillo, while Gloria Gonzalez (5th, 2:19:00) finished 3:45 further back.

Marie Wickham made the F65-69 race her own from the start. Beginning the women's field around 378th, she climbed steadily and relentlessly — moving to 330th, then 308th, 288th, 257th, and ultimately 236th among all women by the finish. That kind of sustained forward momentum across 13.1 miles, maintained at an 8:59/mi clip in cool but humid 54°F conditions, produced a 1:57:50 that no one in this field could answer. Her closing split from 11.45 miles to the finish ranked 178th among all women — a strong finishing kick to seal a dominant performance.

Behind her, Guadalupe Castillo and Lucille Wing ran the race's most compelling subplot. Castillo posted the faster early split between 2.2 and 5.7 miles — her 424th-fastest women's split on that segment edged Wing's 550th — and she built enough of a cushion to hold 2nd despite Wing's steady presence. Wing, a San Francisco local, never cracked: her 2:12:44 at 10:08/mi kept Castillo honest to the very end, a 1:37 gap that reflects a real chase rather than a comfortable gap. Janet Green (4th, 2:15:15) ran a controlled 10:19/mi to finish just 2:31 behind Wing.

The back half of the field spread out considerably. Kathy Trapani (6th, 2:21:35), Helga Mayer (7th, 2:24:07), Debbie Symanovich (8th, 2:28:08), and Linda Cho (9th, 2:29:42) formed a cluster between 10:48 and 11:25 per mile. Deborah Bocci (10th, 2:43:21) and Kanak Yadav (11th, 2:44:26) pushed through at 12:28 and 12:33/mi respectively, while Mia Wilson completed the 12-finisher field in 3:09:01 — every one of them covering 13.1 miles through San Francisco on a humid July morning.
