F30-34: Jing Miao surges to the tape in San Francisco

• Jing Miao, 1:35:11 (7:16/mi): won the F30-34 field, climbing from 10th among women at the opening checkpoint all the way to 2nd by the finish — and posted the 2nd-fastest women's split on the 10M–10.5M stretch.
• Marcella Falcao, 1:36:06: held a rock-steady 7th among women through seven checkpoints before her own 10M–10.5M surge (3rd-fastest women's split on that segment) carried her to 3rd among women and 2nd in F30-34.
• Kristina Walker, 1:40:04 vs. Morgan Jager, 1:40:16: the closest battle on the podium — 12 seconds separated 3rd and 4th, with Walker's 6th-fastest women's split on the 9.6M–10.5M segment the decisive move.
• 651 finishers completed the F30-34 race under cool, breezy San Francisco conditions — 59°F with a 14 mph wind off the bay.

The F30-34 race had a clear, dramatic shape: a patient first half, then a late explosion. Jing Miao of Campbell, CA spent most of the race lurking — she was 10th among women early, crept to 8th, then 6th, and held that position through several checkpoints. Then came the move. On the 10M–10.5M segment she posted the 2nd-fastest women's split in the field, vaulted to 2nd among women, and crossed in 1:35:11 at a 7:16/mi clip to take the F30-34 title. It was a textbook negative-split execution on one of American road racing's most demanding urban courses.

Falcao ran a different kind of race — remarkably even, sitting at 7th among women for checkpoint after checkpoint — before she, too, found another gear on that same 10M–10.5M stretch, logging the 3rd-fastest women's split on the segment. Her 1:36:06 (7:20/mi) earned her 2nd in F30-34, 55 seconds behind Miao. That half-mile stretch essentially decided the top two spots in the entire field.

Third place came down to a genuine chase. Kristina Walker of Seattle arrived at the 9.6M mark sitting 19th among women — deep in the pack — before unleashing the 6th-fastest women's split on the 9.6M–10.5M segment to surge into 10th among women and claim 3rd in F30-34 at 1:40:04. Morgan Jager of Arvada, CO was right behind her at 1:40:16, having made her own sustained push through the second half. Twelve seconds was the margin; Walker had the faster late kick.

Hannah Roberts (1:41:36, 7:45/mi) rounded out the top five with the 14th-fastest women's split on the 12M–Finish segment, while Katherine Marrone of San Francisco (1:42:50) and Alice Huang, also of San Francisco (1:43:40), led a strong local contingent through the top ten.
