M35-39 at Shamrock: Greenlaw runs away from the field in 71-degree heat

• Jerry Greenlaw (37, Alexandria, VA) won the M35-39 group in 2:27:28 (5:37/mi), a full 30 minutes and 9 seconds clear of 2nd place — a dominant margin in difficult conditions.
• The podium spots 2–3–4 were separated by just 17 seconds: Dylan Dille (2:57:37), Alexander King (2:57:44), and Theodore Stiger (2:57:45) — with Stiger charging hardest, climbing from outside the top 90 men to 26th by the finish.
• Greenlaw posted the fastest men's split on the 5K→10K segment and had moved into 1st among men by the halfway point, never relinquishing the lead.
• 178 runners finished in the M35-39 group on a warm, windy Virginia Beach day — 71°F, 17 mph winds, and 73% humidity made every minute earned.

Greenlaw's afternoon was in a class of its own. The 37-year-old from Alexandria went out sitting 3rd among men at 5K, then seized the lead by the halfway mark and held it wire to wire. His 5:37/mi average on a humid, breezy coastal course is the kind of number that doesn't need embellishment — it's simply 30 minutes faster than anyone else in the M35-39 field could manage.

Behind him, the real drama played out in a three-way scramble for the remaining podium spots. Dille, King, and Stiger crossed within a 17-second window after 26.2 miles, with Stiger's late surge the most eye-catching of the three. He was sitting outside the top 90 men at the gun and posted the 13th-fastest men's split on the 35K-to-25.2-mile stretch to vault onto the podium — arriving just one second behind King and two seconds behind Dille.

King and Dille had run shoulder-to-shoulder for much of the race, both logging strong 25K–30K splits (23rd- and 25th-fastest among men on that segment, respectively). Chris Geraghty (39, Yorktown) rounded out the top five in 2:59:37, one of three men in the group to crack three hours. The rest of the top 20 clustered between 3:01 and 3:14, with the wind and heat clearly taking their toll as the miles mounted.
