His movement through the men's field told the story of a controlled, intelligent race: he climbed from 16th among the men to 13th by the second checkpoint, faded back to 39th on the most demanding stretch, then drove back to 15th and settled at 16th by the finish. That mid-race dip and recovery, combined with the 12th-fastest Hobart→Waterfall split among the women's field, signals a runner who found another gear when it counted.

Tetsuya Numakami (7:50:05) ran a quietly impressive race of his own, posting the 12th-fastest Snow Valley Peak→Hobart split in the women's field and steadily climbing from 23rd among the men at the first checkpoint all the way to 15th by the third — before settling back to 19th at the finish. Whit Rambach, 59 years old and racing on home turf out of Incline Village, was the steadiest mover of the three, progressing from 33rd to 23rd across the checkpoints and finishing in 8:00:16 to claim 3rd.

Scott Fischer (8:26:23) and Pete Henze (8:40:22) rounded out the top five, with Henze's late-race surge on the Waterfall→Finish segment the more eye-catching of the two closing efforts. Behind them, Tim Ruiz (10:06:37), David Zensius (10:24:43), Gregory Shimansky (10:26:28), Miguel Mendoza (10:55:35), and Bill Cushard (11:14:26) completed the field — all earning their finishes on a course that doesn't forgive anyone for underestimating the thin air.
