F30-39: Knudson Storms the Back Half to Claim the Title

Julia Raffaini owned the early race. Running out of South Lake Tahoe, she held the top women's gender position through the first checkpoint, through the midpoint, and into the third checkpoint — a sustained front-running effort that looked commanding. She also owned the fastest women's split on the Kick Ash→Snow Valley Peak segment, meaning she was genuinely pushing the pace where the course bites hardest. But somewhere after that third checkpoint, the race changed.

Rachael Knudson — also of South Lake Tahoe — had been lurking in 6th place among women at the midrace checkpoint. Then she moved. By the fourth checkpoint she had taken the lead, and she never gave it back, crossing in 5:59:45 at 11:35/mi. The decisive blow came on the Hobart→Waterfall segment, where she posted the fastest women's split of the day. Raffaini finished in 6:16:04, a strong run in its own right, but the back half belonged entirely to Knudson.

Behind the top two, the race for the podium was a genuine battle of attrition and momentum. Erica Viloria, 30, from Dayton, NV, was 11th among women at the first checkpoint and kept climbing — posting the 3rd-fastest women's split on the first half — to land 3rd in 7:09:19. Emily Warfield of Truckee ran a more volatile race, moving between 3rd and 6th before settling into 4th at 7:10:50. Her 6th-fastest women's split on Snow Valley Peak→Hobart kept her within 91 seconds of the podium. Morgan Murphy rounded out the top five in 7:16:52, while Teresa Bohner (7:37:53), Andrea Lowder (7:40:41), and the rest of the 19-finisher field earned every second across one of the more demanding 50K courses in the Sierra Nevada.
