F45-49 Half Marathon: Erin Spencer dominates in Fresno heat

Erin Spencer turned in the most commanding performance of the F45-49 age group on a warm Fresno morning — 74°F and clear skies at race time. Running 7:40 per mile, she moved from 176th among women at the one-mile mark all the way to 19th by the finish, a relentless climb through the field. Her 10K-to-finish segment ranked 16th-fastest among all women in the race, confirming she didn't just go out hard and hold on — she was still pressing in the back half.

NIDIA RAMIREZ made her move early. Her 35th-fastest women's split on the mile-to-10K stretch put her in position to hold second place through to the line, finishing in 1:47:03 at 8:10/mi. Katie Salcido of Pismo Beach rounded out the podium in 1:49:31, posting the 41st-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-finish leg and climbing 22 places among women in that same stretch — a strong closer who earned third.

The most dramatic mid-race story belonged to Aurora Serafin Sandoval. She was already 27th among women by the 10K mark — up from 64th at mile one — suggesting a blistering early effort. But the back half proved costly; she slipped to 53rd among women at the finish and 4th in the age group at 1:52:04. Joy Judd (1:53:55) and Julie DeYoung (1:56:13) rounded out the top six, while the battle through places 7 through 11 was tight, with Shoua Yang, Martha Cobian, Emilie Smith, Christina Riche', and Laura Frazer all finishing within about 7 minutes of each other.
