Delfino Arevalo, 43, put together the kind of race that makes a field take notice. Running 6:00 per mile across 13.1 miles on a warm November day, he crossed in 1:18:43 — a time that moved him from 60th among men at the one-mile mark all the way to 6th by the 10K checkpoint. He held that momentum through the finish, ending up 8th among all men in the race. His opening segment was among the sharpest in the entire field, posting the 7th-fastest men's split from mile 1 to 10K. In a group of 98, no one came close.

Behind him, the race for 2nd and 3rd was a genuine battle. Jake Bergen (41, Fresno) and Evan Wright (40, Fresno) were locked together for much of the race. Bergen clocked 1:22:24 at 6:17/mi, while Wright finished in 1:22:57 at 6:20/mi — just 33 seconds the difference after more than an hour of racing. Wright actually had the edge in the back half, posting the 13th-fastest men's split from 10K to the finish, suggesting he was closing hard even if Bergen had already done enough to hold him off.

Fourth and fifth told different stories. Andrew Dean (43, Visalia) ran a composed 1:27:45, posting the 25th-fastest opening split among men and never straying far from that position. Eric Detrick, meanwhile, was a slow starter — sitting 146th among men at the mile mark — but ground his way forward relentlessly, recording the 24th-fastest men's split on the back half to land 5th in the age group at 1:28:14. Twenty-nine seconds separated 4th from 5th, and Detrick earned every one of them.
