Men's Half Marathon: Mueller Outkicks Jazo in a Fresno Showdown

• Samuel Mueller won the men's race in 1:13:49 (5:38/mi), edging Ricardo Jazo (1:14:14) after swapping the lead across the race's two splits.

• Benjamin Reyes, 22, was the biggest mover of the race — sitting 9th through 10K before surging to 4th overall (1:15:19) on the back half with the 3rd-fastest 10K-to-finish split among the men.
• Delfino Arevalo, 43, cracked the top 10 with a 1:18:43 (6:00/mi), one of the stronger performances among the older runners in a 731-man field.

The men's race was a genuine two-man duel through the first 10K. Jazo moved to the front early and held the top spot through the middle of the race, running the 3rd-fastest 1M–10K split among the men. Mueller sat just off his shoulder in 2nd — patient, not panicked. Then came the second half, and the script flipped.

Mueller's 10K-to-finish split was the 4th-fastest of any man in the field, and it was enough to reclaim the lead and hold it to the tape. Jazo couldn't quite match that closing gear, finishing 25 seconds back at 1:14:14. Cripps, meanwhile, was running his own quiet race — 5th at the mile, 4th at 10K, and ultimately 3rd at the finish in 1:14:45. He never led, but he was relentlessly efficient, picking off places without fanfare.

Behind the podium, Reyes was the story. Starting the race in 9th and still 9th at 10K, the 22-year-old from Fresno unleashed a closing half that no one in the top five could match — his 10K-to-finish split was the 3rd-fastest among the men, lifting him to 4th in 1:15:19. Jose Mosqueda (1:16:25) and Steven Lancaster (1:17:01) completed a tight top six, all within about three and a half minutes of Mueller's winning time on a warm November morning in Fresno.
