M50-54: O'Rourke edges Addington by three seconds in a sprint to the line

• Patrick O'Rourke, 54, wins the M50-54 group in 1:42:01 (7:47/mi), the fastest time among 50 finishers.
• Three seconds. That's all that separated O'Rourke from Greg Addington at the finish — the narrowest margin of the entire podium.
• Yonghoon Lee completed the podium in 1:45:02, nearly three minutes back but a comfortable margin ahead of 4th.
• A deep field: the 20th-place finisher clocked 2:03:17 — a spread of more than 21 minutes across the top 20 alone.

Patrick O'Rourke came into the Two Cities Half as the oldest man on the M50-54 podium — 54 years old — and ran like he had something to prove. Starting conservatively (204th among men at the first checkpoint), he was already climbing hard through the middle miles, reaching 90th among men at 10K before a strong final push landed him 79th among men at the tape. His winning time of 1:42:01 at a 7:47/mi clip in 74°F heat was a genuine effort, and the margin it produced was nearly nothing.

Greg Addington, 51, gave O'Rourke everything he could handle. Addington was actually behind O'Rourke in the men's standings at every checkpoint — 226th, then 119th, then 82nd — but he closed the 10K-to-finish leg with one of the stronger finishing kicks in the M50-54 group, recording the 78th-fastest split among men on that segment. It wasn't quite enough: the gap at the line was 1:42:04, three seconds short of a victory that was very much within reach.

Yonghoon Lee, 50, ran a composed race at 8:01/mi and finished 3rd in 1:45:02. Like Addington, Lee was a second-half mover — he was 362nd among men through the early miles before climbing to 106th by the finish, posting the 85th-fastest men's split on the 10K-to-finish stretch. Behind him, Lubo Liu (1:48:22) and Calvin Chan (1:49:30) rounded out the top five with steady, if unspectacular, closing efforts.

The rest of the 50-man field spread across a wide range of times, with places 8 and 9 — Van Boghossian and Fares Thwabah — finishing within four seconds of each other at 1:54:30 and 1:54:34. The M50-54 group at Two Cities offered no shortage of tight battles, from the very top of the leaderboard to well down the results sheet.
