Chien-Hua Lu put on a clinic in the M40-44 field at the Napa Valley Marathon 5K. On a cool, humid morning in Napa, Lu's effort stood in a class of its own.

The real drama in this field played out just behind him, where Matt Mayberry of Novato and Robbie Cahill of Mill Valley waged a close battle for the podium. Mayberry held 2nd in 19:57 (6:25/mi), with Cahill pushing hard at 20:06 (6:28/mi) — just 9 seconds and a slightly slower pace separating them at the line. Cahill ran a touch quicker per mile but couldn't quite close the gap Mayberry had built, making 2nd Mayberry's by a sliver.
