Matthew Godkin was simply in a different race. Running 5:25/mi through the cool, humid Napa morning, the 34-year-old from Concord held 8th among all men at the first checkpoint, climbed to 7th on the middle segment — where he posted the 7th-fastest men's split on the 3.1M-to-6.9M stretch — then held firm to the line. His winning margin of 2:47 over James Wang (2nd, 1:13:41, 5:37/mi) was commanding; this was a wire-to-wire statement.

Behind Godkin, Wang and Brandon Schow (3rd, 1:14:46, 5:42/mi) ran steady races, both tracking upward through the men's field across all three checkpoints. Schow moved from 21st to 19th among men overall and posted the 19th-fastest men's split on the middle segment. Jamie Woodbury (4th, 1:15:31, 5:46/mi) was the strongest on the back half among the top group, recording the 18th-fastest men's split from 6.9M to the finish.

The most entertaining chase of the morning belonged to Jared Forte. Starting the race well back — 40th among men — Forte ran progressively harder, posting the 15th-fastest men's split on the closing stretch to climb all the way to 25th among men and 5th in M30-34 at 1:16:15. He arrived at the line just one second ahead of Nicholas Lolli (6th, 1:16:16), with Andrew Redston (7th, 1:16:34), Jared Ripoli (8th, 1:16:47), and Jack Blodgett (9th, 1:16:57) rounding out a tight cluster that covered barely 42 seconds across five finishers.
