His gender standing actually slipped from 2nd to 4th across the checkpoints, suggesting the men ahead of him overall were elite-level competition, but within M40-44 he was untouchable.

Behind him, the real drama played out between Rozeboom and Gallagher for the silver and bronze. Gallagher, the oldest man on the podium at 44, actually moved through the men's field on the back half — climbing from 36th to 32nd among men on the closing leg — but Rozeboom's 30th-fastest men's closing split was a tick sharper, and the Walnut Creek runner held 2nd by 1:18. Both men finished under 1:19 and under 6:00/mi, a genuinely strong pair of efforts.

The battle for 4th was the tightest of the day. Morenz and Aoun traded momentum across the course — Aoun ran a faster middle segment, but Morenz answered with the stronger close, running the 46th-fastest men's finishing split to Aoun's 48th and crossing in 1:23:51 to Aoun's 1:24:09. Eighteen seconds after 13 miles of racing. Further back, both Kris Miller (6th, 1:26:57) and Kris Chiles (7th, 1:27:18) finished within 21 seconds of each other, rounding out a top seven that covered just under 19 minutes from wire to wire.
