Daniel Hirsch controlled M50-54 from the front with authority. Running 6:50 per mile through a cool, humid Napa morning, the 52-year-old from Sebastopol built a gap that no one in the field could answer. His gender place drifted modestly from 79th to 86th among men across the middle segment — a sign he was pacing rather than pressing — but his M50-54 position was never in question. The 3:22 margin over 2nd place tells the whole story.

Behind him, Michael Prindiville held 2nd with a performance that was front-loaded. He was running among the top 69 men at the 6.9-mile mark, a strong position for a half marathon, but the final stretch saw him fade to the 174th-fastest men's split on that leg. Kwun Han ran the opposite race — patient through the first two checkpoints, then surging to the 125th-fastest men's split in the closing miles to climb from 167th to 143rd among men and secure the final podium spot in 1:36:38.

The battle for 4th through 6th was the race's most compressed subplot. Jonathan Craig, Peter Herzog, and David Davick finished within 34 seconds of one another — Craig in 1:43:13, Herzog in 1:43:29, and Davick in 1:43:47 — each running between 7:52 and 7:55 per mile. Craig notably posted the 191st-fastest men's split on the 3.1-to-6.9-mile segment while climbing from 251st to 214th among men, suggesting he had real legs in the middle of the race. Christopher Krebs (7th, 1:44:55) rounded out the top seven, while Scott Page (10th, 1:50:12), traveling from Camdenton, MO, was the field's most distant traveler to crack the top ten.
