Running a 7:35/mi pace in warm, windy, and humid December conditions in Huntsville, the Iowa City native finished in 47:06 — a margin of 5 minutes and 30 seconds over Cheryl Davies of Madison, Alabama. That gap, opened against a field of 22 women in the F50-54 age group, is decisive by any measure.

Davies held her own for 2nd in 52:36 at 8:28/mi, while Angel Brock of Fountain, Colorado earned the final podium spot in 57:49 — nearly five minutes back from Davies but a clear step ahead of 4th-place Marsha McFarland, who crossed in 1:01:25. Treva Garcia, another Madison local, rounded out the top five in 1:04:13, making it a geographically diverse podium stretching from Iowa to Colorado to Virginia.

The middle of the field told its own story.
