Rocket City 10K: Burley Owns the M15-19 Field

The M15-19 age group at the Rocket City 10K brought out just two competitors on a warm, breezy December morning — 70°F with 17 mph winds and 76% humidity making for conditions that were anything but typical for a mid-winter race in Huntsville.

Richard Burley, 19, from Madison, made it a dominant performance from start to finish, crossing in 47:13 at a 7:36-per-mile clip. That's a crisp, controlled effort in the heat and wind, and it left no doubt about who owned this age group on the day.

Alejandro Martin, 16, from Owens Cross Roads, completed the group in 58:41 — a 9:27-per-mile pace that, given the conditions, represents a solid effort for a teenager on a challenging race day. The 11-minute, 28-second gap between the two reflects the difference in age and experience as much as anything else.

Small fields tell simple stories, and this one is straightforward: Burley ran a confident, well-paced 10K and took the win going away. Martin put in the work to finish, and in conditions like these, that counts for something.
