Ganor Penney, 14, from Huntsville, made the home crowd proud with a commanding wire-to-wire performance. His 7:45/mi average was a clear step above the rest of the M0-14 field, and the 5:35 margin over second place left no doubt about who owned this age group on the day.

Behind Penney, the real drama played out between 12-year-old Henry Wells of Nashville and 13-year-old Marcus Allison of Madison, AL. Wells crossed in 53:42 to Allison's 54:03 — just 21 seconds apart after 6.2 miles of racing. In warm, humid conditions with a stiff wind, both boys ran remarkably close to the same pace (8:39 and 8:42 per mile, respectively), making it a tight battle all the way to the line.

Three finishers, three strong efforts in conditions that weren't easy for anyone. Penney's victory was decisive; the Wells-Allison duel gave the M0-14 group a proper race within a race.
