With 29°F air and a 16 mph wind cutting through Huntsville, Linda Royce made it look straightforward. Her 45:39 at 7:21/mi was the benchmark of the day in F40-44, and the 1:33 gap she opened over Kristen Toppin tells you she was in a different gear from the start. In conditions that punish anyone who goes out too hard, Royce's pace held up — and the field felt it.

Toppin's 47:12 (7:36/mi) earned her a clear 2nd, and her day was already a story before this race even started: she had also placed 5th among women in the Rocket City 5K, making her double-race performance one of the weekend's standout efforts. Andrea Silos rounded out the podium in 49:31 (7:58/mi), keeping the top three comfortably grouped before a significant gap opened to Jennifer Dupree in 4th at 54:41 (8:48/mi) and Cynthia Phillips in 5th at 56:05 (9:02/mi).

The race's sharpest drama came just inside the hour mark, where Brittany Buatte and Kate Brosseau were locked in a duel. Buatte crossed in 59:43 to Brosseau's 59:51 — eight seconds the difference between 6th and 7th. Amy Syx followed in 8th at 1:00:16, and Rachel Wyatt rounded out the top nine at 1:00:51, a cluster of four women separated by just over a minute.
