Rocket City 5K: Peggy Neavor Wins the F70-74 Age Group

• Peggy Neavor took the F70-74 title in 33:28, averaging 10:46/mi across the 5K.
• Runner-up Bonnie Miller finished in 40:07 — 6:39 back of Neavor.
• Lyn Toohey rounded out the three-woman group in 1:01:30, completing the field.

Three women aged 70–72 toed the line in Huntsville on a mild December morning — 59°F with a light breeze, about as good as Alabama gets in mid-December for racing. Peggy Neavor, making the trip down from Davenport, Iowa, wasted no time asserting herself, running a composed 10:46/mi to finish in 33:28 and claim the F70-74 title outright.

Local runner Bonnie Miller of Madison, Alabama gave chase but couldn't close the gap, crossing in 40:07 — a solid 12:55/mi effort that earned her second place, 6 minutes and 39 seconds behind Neavor. Lyn Toohey, the oldest of the trio at 72 and traveling the farthest from Los Angeles, completed her race in 1:01:30, finishing the F70-74 field.

All three deserve credit simply for showing up and finishing a 5K at 70-plus — but Neavor's winning margin of nearly seven minutes over Miller made this one hers from early on. The Iowa native heads home with the top spot in the age group.
