Huntsville's warm, breezy December morning — 70°F with a 17 mph wind and thick humidity — didn't slow Rawles Hutcheson of Nashville. He crossed in 1:43:25 at a steady 7:53/mi, a margin that was never really in doubt by the finish. His 10K-to-finish leg was strong enough to rank among the 13th-fastest splits in the men's field on that stretch, and he climbed from 19th to 16th among men over the back half of the course — a quiet but telling surge.

Scott Sandlin, racing on home turf in Huntsville, held second in 1:46:20, moving from 25th to 21st among men over the same stretch with the 17th-fastest men's split on the 10K-to-finish segment. Andrew Smith of nearby Madison matched that late momentum, posting the 23rd-fastest men's split on that leg to finish 3rd in 1:48:26. Those three pulled clear of the rest of the M40-44 field early and stayed there.
