The NB45-49 women's race was a study in contrasts. Janeth Santiago, running out of San Francisco, set a brisk 9:27/mi pace through the city streets and never relinquished her grip on the top spot — she held 4th among all women from the early miles to the tape, finishing in 58:46. That kind of consistency in the fog-laced 57°F morning was exactly what the course rewarded.

Santiago saved something for the closing miles, too. Her split from 4.62 miles to the finish ranked 4th-fastest among all women in the field — a strong finishing kick that underscored just how controlled her effort had been through the first half of the race.

Downing Moua made the trip down from Seattle and saw the race through to the end, finishing in 1:41:59 at 16:25/mi. She moved up one spot in the women's standings over the final stretch — from 24th to 23rd — showing she was still working hard to the line. The 43-minute gap to Santiago was wide, but Moua's completion of the course on a challenging San Francisco morning is its own accomplishment.
