F70-74: Margaret Quinn Dominates on the San Francisco Streets

Five women lined up for the F70-74 race at the 2025 San Francisco Marathon 10K, and Margaret Quinn made it look like a different race entirely. The 72-year-old from Pleasanton crossed in 1:07:09 — a brisk 10:48/mi through San Francisco's cool, overcast morning — and was never seriously challenged. Her final stretch was strong enough to rank 796th among all women on the 4.62-mile-to-finish segment, a telling number in a full 10K field.

Katherine Runyan, 70, from San Jose, claimed second in 1:31:40 (14:45/mi), closing with the fastest split of the non-Quinn podium on that final segment and moving up 59 spots in the women's field between the 4.62-mile mark and the finish — a genuine surge when it mattered. Bella Boyle, 71, of Concord, held on for third in 1:38:56 (15:55/mi), finishing 7:16 behind Runyan.

At the back of the F70-74 field, Kathleen Holmes of La Cañada finished fourth in 2:00:48 (19:26/mi), and local San Franciscan Susan Fong, 74 — the oldest finisher in the group — came home fifth in 2:04:43 (20:04/mi). Fong's 3:55 deficit to Holmes was the tightest gap anywhere in the field outside of Quinn's commanding lead over everyone else. Five finishers, five stories — but one performance that stood well clear of the pack.
