• Philemon Kiplimo finished 2nd in 28:09 — just two seconds back — after climbing from 6th to 3rd among men on that same 5K-to-8K stretch.
• Alex Masai rounded out the podium in 28:29, a 20-second gap back to 3rd, while Bravin Kiptoo (21) faded from 3rd among men at the midpoint to 4th overall in the age group, finishing in 28:49.
• The top four all broke 29 minutes; 5th-place Abdelkarim Zahra clocked 30:27, opening a gap of nearly 1:40 to the rest of the podium.

On a warm June morning in Boston — 77°F with a 12 mph wind — the M20-24 age group produced one of the sharpest finishes of the day. Kennedy Kimutai (23) was locked into 2nd among men from the opening miles and never wavered, crossing in 28:07 at a 4:31-per-mile clip. His strength in the 5K-to-8K segment was decisive: he posted the 2nd-fastest split on that stretch in the entire men's field, a surge that left little room for anyone to respond.

Philemon Kiplimo (23) was the most aggressive mover of the front pack. Starting the day back in 6th among men, he worked his way up to 3rd by the 8K mark and ultimately finished 2nd in the age group in 28:09 — two seconds behind Kimutai. It was a relentless middle-race push, but the margin at the line tells the story: not quite enough. Alex Masai (24) settled into 3rd in 28:29, steady if not spectacular, while 21-year-old Bravin Kiptoo paid for his early aggression — sitting 3rd among men at 5K before slipping back to 4th by the finish in 28:49.

Behind the top four, the field spread out considerably. Zahra (23, Baltimore) was the clear 5th in 30:27, followed by a competitive local contingent: Joshua Kalapos of Somerville in 32:36, and Erik Linden (Bristol) and Ryan Sax (Boston) separated by just two seconds — 33:40 and 33:42 — in 7th and 8th. In a field of 167, the M20-24 age group showed real depth at the front and plenty of fight throughout.
