M55-59 at the B.A.A. 10K: Boulay Dominates in Boston Heat

• Pierre Boulay wins in 36:39 (5:54/mi), nearly three minutes clear of the rest of the M55-59 field.
• Casey Strange (39:28) and Paul Davies (39:44) battled closely for 2nd and 3rd — just 16 seconds separating them at the line.

Pierre Boulay of Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley, QC, turned the M55-59 race into a solo time trial. His 36:39 — a 5:54-per-mile clip in 77-degree heat — put nearly three minutes between him and the field. He was moving through the men's race as a whole throughout, climbing from 77th among men at the 5K checkpoint to 71st by 8K, and his 8K-to-finish split ranked 70th among all men in the race. At 55, he ran like a man with something to prove, and the scoreboard backed him up completely.

Behind him, the real drama was the fight for 2nd. Casey Strange (Abington, MA) held on at 39:28, but Paul Davies (West Roxbury, MA) was closing — his 5K-to-8K split ranked 123rd among the men, compared to Strange's 140th on that same stretch. Davies's late surge nearly worked, but Strange's cushion proved just enough, the gap at the finish a mere 16 seconds. Both men ran at 55 years old, making it an all-55 podium sweep alongside Boulay.

Mark Tebbe (Arlington, MA) finished 4th in 41:10 but was one of the more notable faders of the afternoon — he slipped from 158th among men at the 5K to 175th by 8K, the heat and pace clearly taking their toll. Jerode King of Brooklyn followed a similar arc, dropping from 155th to 197th among men over that same stretch before finishing 5th in 41:47. Colm Quinn (42:29) and Manuel Chinchilla (42:42) claimed 6th and 7th, with Paul Sullivan (43:17), Eric Rosen (43:46), and Stephen Binder (44:40) completing the top ten across a tight and competitive age group.
