B.A.A. 10K Girls U-14: Dupere Dominates in the Heat

• Vivienne Dupere won the F0-14 age group in 46:37 (7:30/mi), finishing more than 4 minutes ahead of runner-up Ananya Avasthi.
• Dupere held her position among the women's field through the second half, posting the 234th-fastest women's split on the final 5K — remarkably consistent under 87°F heat and 18 mph winds.
• A tight battle for 2nd and 3rd: Avasthi (50:43) and Casey Costello (51:53) were separated by 1:10, with Costello actually gaining ground on the closing stretch to trim a larger gap.
• Courtney Purnell and Isabel O'Connor both crossed in 1:03 — Purnell edging O'Connor by just 6 seconds for 6th place.

Thirteen-year-old Vivienne Dupere of Newton put on a commanding performance, running 7:30-per-mile pace across 6.2 miles on a brutally warm June morning in Boston. She was never seriously challenged — her lead among the women's field was established early and held through the finish — and her margin over the rest of the F0-14 field was decisive from the gun.

Behind her, Ananya Avasthi of Pembroke made her move count early. She was well-positioned among the women's field through the 5K mark but faded slightly in the back half, posting the 622nd-fastest women's split from 8K to the finish. Costello, also 13 and running for West Newton, ran the opposite race — she was further back at 8K but closed with the 495th-fastest women's split over that same stretch, pulling within 1:10 of Avasthi by the line. Twelve-year-old Eleanorah Wermer of Newton rounded out the top four in 52:31, a strong effort for the youngest of the group.

The middle and back of the F0-14 field showed real range — from Leila Alencar's 59:18 in 5th to Daksha Peasapati's 1:35:59 in 15th. In conditions that would challenge any runner, all 15 finishers completed the course, with the youngest athletes, several of them just 12 years old, showing particular grit over the final miles.
