M0-14: Spencer Clemans Runs Away with the Boys' Title in Boston Heat

Spencer Clemans didn't just win the M0-14 group — he dominated it. Running 5:59 per mile through Boston's summer heat and wind, the 13-year-old from Concord, NH, moved steadily through the broader field as the race progressed, climbing from 158th to 110th among the women's field by the finish. His winning margin of 2:56 over Ishaan Kanagaraj was decisive from the start and only grew.

Kanagaraj, also 13 and racing out of Belmont, held second place comfortably, finishing in 40:04 at 6:27/mi. Beckett Ahern of Wellesley — the lone 14-year-old on the podium — rounded out the top three in 42:15, running 6:48/mi and staying steady through the middle portion of the race.

The real drama in the M0-14 group came just behind them. Rohan Bhide (12, Brookline), Gavin Prout (14, Needham), and Zeke Bittker (14, Cambridge) crossed within 12 seconds of each other — 48:11, 48:22, and 48:23 — with Bhide holding off the pair despite fading slightly through the second half. Prout and Bittker were essentially inseparable at the line.

Beyond the top finishers, 24 boys ages 12–14 completed a genuinely tough 10K in Boston's late-June heat. The spread from Clemans's 37:08 to the 20th finisher's 1:12:46 reflects the range of experience in the group — but finishing a 10K at sub-87°F-friendly conditions at any age in this field is no small thing.
