Frigid conditions greeted the 17 finishers in the F20-24 age group at Rocket City — 29°F, a biting 16 mph wind, and clear skies over Huntsville. None of that slowed Alison Ray. The 24-year-old from Knoxville posted a 6:58/mi average to finish in 21:38, a margin so commanding that the entire rest of the field was still racing when she crossed the line. Eight minutes and 14 seconds separated her from runner-up Brianna Carroll — that's not a race, that's a statement.

Carroll's 29:52 (9:37/mi) was a solid effort in its own right, and she held off a genuinely close contest behind her. Naomi Nichols of Harvest finished 3rd in 30:38, with Annabelle Parrish of Huntsville just three seconds back in 4th at 30:41. Allison Dove rounded out the top five in 31:14, and Samantha Botter took 6th in 31:42 — six runners within two and a half minutes of each other for places 2 through 6.

The Nichols family made their presence felt: Naomi (3rd, 30:38) and Lisa (7th, 32:12), both from Harvest, AL, each finished in the top half of the field. And Ray's day deserves a second look — she didn't just win this 5K; she also raced the Rocket City 10K and placed 5th among women there.
