Jake Adrian, 47, from Bettendorf, Iowa, was unbothered. His 21:45 at 7:00/mi was the class of the field from the gun, and he crossed the line a clear 1:09 ahead of anyone else in the age group — a comfortable, controlled victory in genuinely brutal conditions.

Daniel Brunick (22:54, 7:22/mi) claimed second and kept it respectable, but the real drama was just behind him. Dan Chappell ran 23:12 to take 3rd, holding off Michael Holder (23:43) by 31 seconds. Those two Montgomerians pushed each other hard — the gap between 2nd and 4th was just 49 seconds across three finishers, making the back half of the podium the most competitive stretch of the race.

Further back, the 5th-place battle produced one of the day's most striking moments: Jason Deem of Huntsville and Christopher Stlaurent of Boaz both clocked 25:16 at 8:08/mi. The timing system separates them — Deem takes 5th — but it was as close as the clock allows. Charlie Cook (7th, 27:10) and Randy Adams (8th, 27:37) rounded out a solid mid-pack cluster before the field spread considerably, with the final eight finishers spanning from 31:54 to 52:11. Chris Sylvester, 48, of Huntsville closed out the group at 52:11 — every finisher earned their finish line on a cold December morning in Alabama.
