The Huntsville local crossed in 1:48:33 at an 8:17-per-mile clip, a margin of more than four minutes over Alpharetta's Alicia Lysak (1:52:35, 8:35/mi). Both women were moving well in the back half — McConnell advancing eight spots among the women's field over the final 10K, Lysak holding steady and climbing two — but McConnell's lead was never seriously threatened.

Lori Hale of Florence, Alabama, rounded out the podium in 2:02:07, finishing 62nd among women and running a 9:19 pace to hold off a crowded mid-pack. Behind her, the race produced one of the tightest three-way finishes of the day: Dana Horan, Mindy Jacques, and Melissa Jones Deklew crossed in 2:04:35, 2:04:36, and 2:04:37 — three runners, one age group, three consecutive seconds. Horan and Jacques, both from Plain City, Ohio, actually faded slightly in the final 10K by women's field position, while Deklew held her own coming in from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.

The wind and humidity that draped Huntsville on race morning were a genuine factor across a 48-woman field that ranged widely in pace. From McConnell's sub-1:49 to the deeper reaches of the age group, this was a day that rewarded patience and consistency — and nobody demonstrated those qualities more clearly than the woman who won it wire to wire.
