Warm, humid, and breezy conditions — 70°F, 76% humidity, and a 17 mph wind — made for a demanding December day in Huntsville, and the F60-64 group delivered one of the most compelling finishes of the morning. Anita Thebo, 62, from Prattville, Alabama, crossed in 2:33:25 to take the win, but Gayann Luck of Greenwood, Missouri was right on her heels. Eight seconds over 13.1 miles is a margin that could have flipped at virtually any point on the course.

Both women were moving through the women's field in the back half of the race. Thebo climbed from 210th to 195th among the women over the final 10K-to-finish segment, posting the 180th-fastest women's split on that stretch. Luck was just behind her in the women's standings the whole way, moving from 198th to 197th — a steadier, more consistent ride to nearly the same clock time. It was a genuine race-within-a-race between two athletes running almost identically.

Catherine Nolan, 63, rounded out the podium in 2:41:32, finishing 26th among the women on the final segment and pulling from 241st to 226th in the women's field — a solid closing effort. Gail Sikes and Patricia Hein filled out the top five, with Hein the only top-five finisher to lose ground in the women's standings over that final stretch, sliding from 252nd to 264th. Karen Paulukaitis, Laurie Lober, and Sandra McGuire brought it home in their own time, with McGuire's 3:50:37 a testament to sheer determination on a tough weather day.
