Napa Valley Half Marathon: Muhalia dominates the F21-24 field

• Vallary Muhalia wins in 1:33:52 (7:10/mi), finishing nearly six minutes clear of runner-up Grace Scullion — the widest gap on the podium.
• Kaylee Rupprecht's closing surge was the story of the back half: she ran the 94th-fastest women's split on the 6.9M–Finish stretch, rocketing from 189th to 120th among women and vaulting from well outside the top four into 4th place in F21-24.
• Sophia Hu and Audrey Woychick finished 5th (1:47:45) and 6th (1:47:56) — just 11 seconds apart — while Katie Mccormick and Megan Empey both clocked 1:48:35 to round out the top eight.
• 78 finishers completed the F21-24 race on a cool, calm morning in Napa — 41°F with a light 5 mph wind that kept conditions honest without punishing anyone.

Vallary Muhalia, 22, from San Francisco, put together the kind of performance that leaves little to debate. Her 7:10/mi average held firm across 13.1 miles, and she closed with the 42nd-fastest women's split on the back half of the course — a strong finish that moved her from 52nd to 46th among all women. Runner-up Grace Scullion (1:39:39, 7:36/mi) ran a composed race of her own, moving from 85th to 80th among women on the closing stretch, but Muhalia's 5:47 margin of victory was never seriously threatened.

Rachel Xiang (1:44:09, 7:57/mi) claimed 3rd, running steadily through to the finish and moving from 113th to 106th among women in the closing miles. Behind her, Kaylee Rupprecht delivered the most dramatic second half in the top ten: sitting well outside the top four at the 6.9-mile mark, the 21-year-old from Napa ran the 94th-fastest women's closing split to finish 4th in 1:45:39. That surge came at Sophia Hu's expense — Hu faded slightly over the same stretch, slipping from 140th to 150th among women, and settled for 5th in 1:47:45.

The battle for 7th and 8th produced one of the tightest finishes of the morning: Santa Monica's Katie Mccormick and San Francisco's Megan Empey — both 22 — crossed in identical displayed times of 1:48:35, separated only by the finest sliver of the clock. Further back, Abigail Korff (1:51:08) held 9th comfortably ahead of Amber Kampen's 1:55:14 in 10th, with the rest of the 78-finisher field stretching out across a wide range of efforts through the Napa Valley morning.
