F65-69 Half Marathon: Rivenburgh rules Napa in a sub-2:01 statement

• Nancy Rivenburgh won the F65-69 race in 2:00:19 (9:11/mi), the fastest finish in the field by more than eight minutes.
• Kem McGrath made up the most ground in the back half, climbing from 557th to 515th among women on the 6.9M→Finish segment to claim 2nd in 2:08:56.
• Kathy Trapani (3rd, 2:12:01) ran the final stretch at a slower pace than McGrath and slipped from 545th to 577th among women — a fade that handed McGrath a comfortable cushion at the line.
• A cluster of four finishers — Patricia McGinnis (10th, 3:11:46), Antoinette Charles (11th, 3:12:49), Patricia Kuljian (12th, 3:12:53), and Sharon Egelhoff (13th, 3:12:56) — all crossed within 70 seconds of each other, the tightest battle of the day in this field.

Nancy Rivenburgh made the F65-69 race her own from the start. The 66-year-old from Seattle crossed in 2:00:19 at a 9:11/mi clip — a margin of more than eight and a half minutes over the rest of the field. Her second half wasn't her sharpest relative to the women's field (378th-fastest split on the 6.9M→Finish segment), but it hardly mattered; no one in the F65-69 field was close enough to threaten her.

Behind Rivenburgh, the real drama was the McGrath-Trapani battle for the podium's second step. Kem McGrath of Gold River ran the back half with genuine conviction, surging from 557th to 515th among women to finish in 2:08:56. Kathy Trapani, meanwhile, faded — sliding from 545th to 577th in the women's field on that same stretch — and finished in 2:12:01, nearly three and a half minutes behind McGrath. Linda Beno (4th, 2:19:37) and Cheryl Vientos (5th, 2:23:33) rounded out the top five, with Vientos also fading over the second half, dropping from 716th to 773rd among women.

The back of the F65-69 field produced one of the race's most dramatic clusters: McGinnis, Charles, Kuljian, and Egelhoff — all 67 or 65 years old, representing cities from Alpharetta to Mountain View — finished 10th through 13th within a span of 70 seconds, all in the 3:11–3:13 range. Cindy York of Saint Paul, 68, closed out the 17-woman field in 3:43:55, the only finisher in her late 60s in that final group.
