Napa Valley Half Marathon F30-34: Theresa Hailey Flies to the Front

Theresa Hailey owned the F30-34 race from start to finish in Napa's cool 41°F morning air. Running a 5:44/mi average, the Portland 34-year-old crossed in 1:15:06 — good for 2nd among all women in the field. She wasn't done surging, either: her 6.9M-to-finish split was the 2nd-fastest among women in the entire race, a closing kick that underscored just how dominant her day was. No one in F30-34 came close.

The battle for the podium behind her told a different story. Jen Odenheimer (Portola Valley) ran a composed, consistent race — 4th among women at the midpoint check, 4th among women at the finish — to claim 2nd in F30-34 in 1:18:15 (5:58/mi). Rachel Mitchell (Flagstaff) was the mover of the top three: sitting 9th among women through the early going, she posted the 6th-fastest women's split on the final stretch to climb to 7th among women overall and lock up 3rd in 1:20:30 (6:08/mi). Kaylin Russeau, by contrast, ran the inverse — 6th among women early, but a 15th-fastest closing split saw her slip to 11th among women by the tape, finishing 4th in F30-34 in 1:21:58 (6:15/mi). Mitchell caught her; the numbers make that clear.

Sarah Seus (San Francisco) rounded out the top five in 1:23:00 (6:20/mi), steady at 14th among women throughout. From there, Anh Bui (6th, 1:24:59), Breanna Lytton (7th, 1:26:23), and Mary Kate Supplitt (8th, 1:26:59) filled out a tightly grouped middle tier, with just over two minutes separating 6th from 8th. Jessica Freeman and Sarah Klass — both clocking 6:42/mi — finished 9th (1:27:47) and 10th (1:27:53) respectively, six seconds apart in the standings. Across 211 finishers in F30-34, Hailey's performance stood in a class of its own.
