Napa Valley 5K: Ellen Chang Wins a Wet F55-59 Showdown on Home Turf

Fourteen seconds separated them at the line — a margin that kept things interesting from start to finish.

The battle for third was its own story. Sharon Wyatt, another Napa local, held off Suzanna Wilson of South San Francisco — 31:47 to 31:55 — with just 8 seconds deciding the podium's final step. Anita Chatta (5th, 32:28) and Kim Knierbein (6th, 32:35) staged a similar duel just behind, separated by only 7 seconds. That mid-pack cluster of four women spanning barely 48 seconds made for one of the tightest stretches of racing in the field.

Further back, Julie Capito (7th, 33:19) and Chris Gardner (8th, 33:29) kept the competitive pressure going, while Lori True (11th, 34:55) and Jennifer Mitchell (12th, 35:46) rounded out a deep top dozen. The field spread out considerably from there, with Laura Cesar (19th, 43:59) and Dinia Paananen (20th, 45:13) among the last of the listed finishers — each earning their finish in conditions that would have sent plenty of people back to bed.
