Claire Decker showed up, toed the line in the cold Napa rain, and got it done. The 80-year-old Napa local was the only competitor in the F80-99 field on March 3rd, 2024 — and that fact alone deserves recognition. Plenty of people her age were home and dry.

Finishing in 52:23 at a 16:52-per-mile pace through damp, chilly conditions, Decker claimed every point on offer. There's no asterisk on a solo win when the bar to entry is simply being willing to race at 80 years old in the rain. She cleared it.
