M55-59: Osha Dominates in the Napa Drizzle

With light rain falling and temperatures hovering at 41°F in Napa, Joseph Osha of Oakland made the M55-59 field look like it was running a different race. The 59-year-old crossed in 24:41 at a 7:57/mi clip — a commanding effort that put nearly two full minutes between himself and second place. In a 5K, that kind of gap is a statement.

Behind him, Sergio Silva (Vacaville, CA) claimed second in 26:34, running an 8:33/mi pace, while Serj Minassians (Glendale, CA) rounded out the podium in 27:17 at 8:47/mi. The 43-second gap between them made for the most competitive battle of the day — Silva faster through the bulk of the race, Minassians unable to fully close the distance but keeping it honest to the line.

Dan Walsh (31:17) and Bradley Proctor (32:21) occupied fourth and fifth, separated by just over a minute and running in the 10:00–10:25/mi range, with Doug Fraggi (Napa, CA) following in sixth at 33:53. Local knowledge of the Napa course didn't quite translate into a podium spot for Fraggi, but his 10:54/mi on a cold, wet morning was a solid effort. Leandro Estebecorena (40:10), Erik Paananen (45:15), and Terry Gardner (47:48) rounded out the nine-man field, Gardner finishing in 15:23/mi — a reminder that just showing up and finishing a 5K in a rainy 41-degree morning deserves its own acknowledgment.
