F21-24 at Napa Valley Half Marathon: Nye dominates in the cold rain

• Jessica Nye wins in 1:26:16 (6:35/mi), finishing 16th among all women and posting the 10th-fastest women's split on the final 6.9M-to-finish stretch.
• Allison Carr and Katherine Cronin battle to the wire — separated by just four seconds at the line (1:31:07 vs. 1:31:11), with Carr running the stronger second half to claim 2nd.
• Hannah Walton and Olivia Scott round out the top five at 1:39:55 and 1:41:10, a gap of over 13 minutes back from the winner.
• 11th and 12th place finish in identical displayed times — Jackie Hur and Emma Perkins both crossed in 1:50:15 at 8:25/mi, with Hur edging ahead by the finest of margins.

A cold, wet Sunday in Napa — 40°F, light rain, 5 mph wind — set the stage for 63 finishers in the F21-24 field, and Jessica Nye of San Francisco made the conditions look irrelevant. Running 6:35/mi, she moved from 22nd among women at the first checkpoint up to 16th by the midpoint and held that position all the way home, finishing in 1:26:16. Her closing leg was one of the sharpest in the women's field — the 10th-fastest 6.9M-to-finish split among all women — a sign that she was running stronger, not just running ahead.

The real drama in this field played out for second place. Allison Carr and Katherine Cronin were separated by just four seconds — 1:31:07 to 1:31:11 — but they got there differently. Cronin held a stronger position through the middle segment, posting the 35th-fastest women's split on the 3.1M-to-6.9M stretch, while Carr was still 44th among women at that checkpoint. It was Carr who ran the final leg harder, recording the 27th-fastest women's split on the 6.9M-to-finish stretch to close the gap and secure 2nd by four seconds. A near-identical finish time; a very different final push.

From there, the field spread out. Hannah Walton finished 4th in 1:39:55 (7:37/mi), though her pace slowed across the second half as she slipped from 82nd to 96th among women. Olivia Scott countered that trend, moving up from 117th to 108th among women on the back half to finish 5th in 1:41:10. Sarah Allen (6th, 1:42:56) through Camille Hudson (20th, 1:55:17) filled out a competitive middle pack, with Daria Drake, Meera Keskar, and Shawn Spani all finishing within seven seconds of each other around the 1:53 mark.
