F30-34 Half Marathon: Odenheimer surges late to steal the crown in Napa

• Gustafson owned the middle miles — her fastest women's split on the 3.1M→6.9M segment had her sitting 1st among women at the halfway checkpoint, but Odenheimer's closing kick was the decisive move.
• Keli Dennehy charged through the field — sitting 6th among women at 3.1M, she climbed to 3rd by 6.9M and held it to the line, finishing in 1:20:22 with the 3rd-fastest women's middle split.
• Odenheimer improves on her own 2023 result — she ran 1:18:15 here a year ago to finish 4th among women; this time she took the top spot, 1:40 faster.

Cold, wet conditions — 40°F and light rain — greeted 221 finishers in the F30-34 field on race day, and the front of the race was anything but settled. Gustafson (Littleton, CO) went out with purpose, posting the fastest women's split through the opening 3.1 miles and carrying that momentum into the middle stretch, where she again ran the fastest women's split to reach 6.9M in the lead. Odenheimer (Portola Valley, CA), meanwhile, was sitting 2nd among women through those first two checkpoints — close, but not yet in control.

Then came the back half. Odenheimer turned in the fastest women's split from 6.9M to the finish, running a 5:51/mi average that Gustafson could not match. The gap at the line: 1:45, a margin that belies how tight the race looked through most of its middle miles. It's a genuine redemption arc in the data — Odenheimer stood 4th among women here in 2023 at 1:18:15, and she came back to not only win the F30-34 field but to do it 1:40 faster.

Dennehy (Bozeman, MT) was the other major mover of the day. She was 6th among women at the 3.1M mark, crept up to 3rd by 6.9M on the strength of the 3rd-fastest women's middle split, and finished there in 1:20:22 — a clean, progressive race. Rebecca Wheeler (San Francisco, CA) rounded out the top four in 1:22:49, while Sarah Klass (Oakland, CA) provided one of the more dramatic late moves, posting the 4th-fastest women's closing split to climb from 11th among women at 6.9M all the way to 5th at the finish in 1:23:32.
