Thirteen men in the M70-74 field toed the line in Napa on a raw, rainy March morning — 40°F, light rain, and 84% humidity — and Paul Braunschweiler of Omaha made it look like a training run. He moved through the men's field steadily — tracking 176th among men at the first checkpoint, then climbing to 168th by mid-race before settling at 180th at the finish — a reminder that even a dominant M70-74 victory unfolds against a large field. His mid-race split (3.1M to 6.9M) ranked 165th-fastest among all men on that segment, a genuine marker of how hard he was working.

Behind Braunschweiler, Clive Philbrick of San Jose ran a disciplined 9:07/mi to claim 2nd in 1:59:29, finishing with a strong 6.9M-to-finish split (412th among all men) that helped him advance from 466th to 437th in the overall men's standings across the race. Jack Zakarian (2:16:28) wasn't far behind in 6th.
