Run the Parkway 20 Miler — F30-34: Finn Runs Down the Lead

• Maureen Finn won the F30-34 group in 2:19:31 (6:59/mi), posting the 2nd-fastest women's split from Mile 4 to Mile 10 to seize control.
• Annie Stratton finished 2nd in 2:21:43, closing with the 3rd-fastest women's split from Mile 10 to Mile 15.6 to lock up the runner-up spot.
• Julianne Curtis was the group's strongest finisher late in the race, running the 4th-fastest women's split from Mile 16 to the finish to climb from 13th among women to 10th — good for 5th in F30-34 in 2:34:09.
• 58 women finished in the F30-34 age group, with the top five separated by nearly 15 minutes.

The F30-34 race had an early leader who didn't hold on. Jessy Herring — who finished 3rd in 2:24:19 — opened as the top woman in the field, but the middle miles told a different story. Between Mile 4 and Mile 10, Herring slipped from 2nd among women to 5th, while Finn surged through that same stretch with the 2nd-fastest women's split of any runner on that segment. By Mile 10, Finn had moved to the front of the women's race, and she never fully relinquished it.

Finn's 6:59/mi average held up through the heat — 74°F with modest humidity is no small thing over 20 miles — and she crossed in 2:19:31 to claim the F30-34 title. Annie Stratton of Paradise, CA, made her own move in the back half, running the 3rd-fastest women's split from Mile 10 to Mile 15.6 to climb from 4th among women to 3rd, ultimately finishing 2nd in the age group at 2:21:43. The gap between Finn and Stratton at the line was 2:12 — meaningful, but earned over a race where both women were moving through the field in the same direction.

Rachel Jones, making the trip from Ankeny, IA, ran a steady 7:36/mi to finish 4th in 2:31:55, holding 8th among women from Mile 4 through the finish. Behind her, Curtis was the story of the late miles — her 4th-fastest women's split from Mile 16 to the finish turned a mid-pack position into 5th in F30-34. Emalia Seto (6th, 2:37:09) and Kristen Mayo (7th, 2:41:32) rounded out a competitive top half of the age group before the field spread out across the final standings.
