Run the Parkway 20 Miler: Hastings edges a razor-thin F40-44 podium

• Morgan Hastings (age 44, Roseville) won the F40-44 group in 2:57:42 — the only finisher to break 2:58.
• The top four were separated by just 2:01, with three athletes (Buehler, Oldenburger, Durkee) all finishing between 2:58:22 and 2:59:43.
• Jenny Cook and Marie Mitchell staged the day's biggest late charge, climbing from outside the top 70 among women to finish 5th and 6th in F40-44.
• Megan Oldenburger ran the strongest second half in the group, moving from 48th among women at the start to 41st by the finish — the most consistent climber in the top five.

Morgan Hastings crossed in 2:57:42 at an 8:53/mi pace, the lone F40-44 finisher under the 2:58 barrier on a warm November morning in Folsom — 74°F with humidity nudging 60% made every minute earned. Her gender place drifted slightly across the middle miles (33rd to 39th among women through Mile 15.6), but her 33rd-fastest women's split on the Mile 10–15.6 stretch showed she was still moving with purpose when it mattered most.

Right behind her, Courtney Buehler (2:58:22, 8:55/mi) and Megan Oldenburger (2:58:36, 8:56/mi) made this a genuine three-way contest for the podium. Buehler had been running as high as 29th among women through Mile 10 — her 31st-fastest women's split on the Mile 4–10 segment was a real mid-race weapon — but she faded to 40th among women by the finish, allowing Oldenburger to close the gap. Oldenburger, who had been buried 48th among women at Mile 4, steadily reeled in runners over the back half to claim 3rd. Kristen Durkee (2:59:43, 8:59/mi) rounded out the top four, finishing just 1:21 behind Buehler after a similar late fade from 35th to 44th among women.

The finish-line drama extended to 5th and 6th. Jenny Cook (3:06:59) and Marie Mitchell (3:07:00) crossed just one second apart — Cook having climbed all the way from 77th among women at Mile 4 to 59th by the finish. Taylor Utulo (3:07:32) was another 32 seconds back in 7th, while Jessica Pagan (3:09:46), Tina Bruno (3:10:29), and Maria Lucas (3:13:53) rounded out the top ten in an F40-44 field of 48.
