Romney Resney ran a race that simply had no answer. Her 7:40/mi average was a full minute per mile faster than anyone else in the F55-59 group, and she held 9th among all women from the halfway point through to the finish. She capped it with the 9th-fastest women's split on the Mile 16→Finish stretch — not coasting home, but pressing the accelerator on a warm November day in Folsom. The 74°F conditions with nearly 60% humidity made that sustained effort all the more impressive.

Behind her, the race for 2nd through 4th was genuinely gripping. Cherie Smith came in at 2:52:10, having climbed from 35th among women at Mile 10 all the way to 25th by the finish — a clear late-race surge that included the 21st-fastest women's split on the Mile 16→Finish leg. Song Liu and Rosie Dai had been running similarly positioned through the women's field all day, and they arrived within 39 seconds of each other at the line: Liu 3rd in 2:53:02, Dai 4th in 2:53:41. That's a 92-second window separating three athletes across the final podium spots.

Chandra Thomas (5th, 3:05:47) and Susan Truong (6th, 3:06:30) were separated by only 43 seconds, while Lisa Chiladakis rounded out the top seven in 3:11:13. Further back, the field spread out steadily, with Tracy Mullen (10th, 3:37:26), Ramona Marshall (11th, 3:39:20), and Arlene Trillo (12th, 3:41:04) running nearly in convoy through the 10-minute-per-mile range. Every one of the 19 finishers completed a demanding 20-mile course — Beth Dameral (17th, 4:08:38) and the two Arlenes earning their results just as surely as the frontrunners.
