M20-24: Toncu runs away from the field in Folsom's heat

Keith Toncu made the M20-24 race his own from the opening miles. Running at 6:39/mi through 74°F heat in Folsom, the 21-year-old Sacramento native built and held a commanding lead, and his split on the Mile 4–Mile 10 stretch ranked among the fastest in the broader field. By the finish, no one in the age group was close — his 2:13:03 stood more than 34 minutes ahead of runner-up Rami Maita.

Maita, also 22 and from Sacramento, ran a composed and improving race. He climbed steadily through the broader men's field across every checkpoint, and his Mile 16–Finish split was among the stronger closing efforts of the day. His 2:47:23 secured second comfortably. Anthony Leong of Fair Oaks had a more turbulent afternoon — he faded through the middle of the race but produced a genuinely explosive Mile 15.6–Mile 16 segment, the second-fastest such split in the entire field, before finishing third in 3:29:41.

Kelvin Vue (3:47:46, 11:23/mi) held fourth with a remarkably consistent run, barely shifting position through the broader men's field from start to finish. Ethan Adame of Sutter faded across the back half to finish fifth in 4:07:01, while Neo Young rounded out the six-man group in 4:18:56 — more than two hours and 15 minutes behind Toncu, underscoring just how wide the range of effort was across this young men's field on a warm November morning in Folsom.
